Joseph FraleyRenewable Energy Apprentice ![]() I was driven to learn about renewable energy after implementing a tree planting project at Elijah Bristow State Park in Dexter, OR. We planted a thousand trees and irrigated them using a solar-powered, piston pump. I learned a great deal from the experience about utilizing solar energy. While working for the City of Eugene at Hendricks Park, I learned of the peril that our native forests are in from invasive species and the expanding footprint of humankind. All around us, our natural environment is changing and it is my belief that human actions are having a negative impact on our quality of life. I have chosen to spend my life being a part of the solution to make this world what it can be. I graduated from the Renewable Energy Technician program at Lane Community College in June 2009 with the intention of using the knowledge that I had gained to improve lives in this country and around the world. Working at Energy Design has provided me with an opportunity to implement the knowledge and skills that I learned in school and the years I spent in the construction trades. I am happily married and have three girls, 19, 17 and 9. Having children emphasizes the importance of a new, clean energy future for our world. What kind of a world do I want to leave them? Should we leave a planet with fewer options for a healthy future, or a planet that has sustainable growth? For me, the choice is simple. |
